Hosted by CityU’s Center for Cybersecurity Innovation and School of Technology and Computing (STC), the Applied Research Symposium is open to faculty, professionals, and students from any discipline, university, or professional organization. At the end of each quarter, any students who would like to share their projects including capstone courses will present their outcomes. This symposium will provide opportunities for students, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the influence and impact of the applied computing on the future of our planet and our society

Description: Rental goods website is an assist economic behavior that facilitates borrowing of goods at a certain cost.
Description: In addition to using language to communicate in daily life, blind people also rely on Braille to express and read ideas. However, Braille needs to be learned from scratch and takes a lot of time, which is very difficult for many people who want to understand them immediately, so making this braille translator can effectively reduce the difficulty of communicating with blind people, so that people can more easily understand what the blind people want to express.
Description: This project analyzes and evaluates chatbots from today and past shopping sites. The collected data results are analyzed to create models to build more friendly AI chatbots. Satisfy customer satisfaction while promoting the reputation and revenue of the merchant. To have a positive effect on the shopping site market.
Description: Research the features and techniques needed to make a personal music player software or application.
Description: This project is done by using hand capture technology with RGB camera. Then through Unity, the virtual hand model is manipulated to implement a series of functional applications. Using RGB cameras for hand tracking is very advantageous in terms of cost. And almost every person has a camera. Making this tracking solution possible and would be popular.
Description: Artificial intelligence has been expanding, and a series of issues, such as culture, bias, fairness, etc., are also emerging in the context of the rapid development of technology now. Through the study of the open source project deep fake technology and the discussion of the case, we hope to point out how artificial intelligence’s risks and ethical settings should be accomplished.
Description: The main purpose of this project is to discuss the future direction of automated testing tools. Also, to see what features a great testing tool should have by comparing the mainstream testing tools in the market.
Description: The purpose of this research is to create a maze type adventure puzzle game using Python. Players collect gold coins in the maze and avoid the pursuit of demons, and finally collect gold coins and escape to the next level. It’s a very interesting game.
Description: Emotion recognition provides benefits to many institutions and aspects of life. It is critical for easily and simply detecting human feelings at a given moment without actually asking. That’s why people are starting to want to use AI to solve this problem. But the limitations of AI in understanding human emotions remains a challenge. The project used 28821 images as training data and 7066 images as detection data. A convolutional neural network model was created using Keras. Then a visualization platform is built to show the effect. Seven different emotions are detected in real time by the camera. Achieve the effect of easily and simply detecting human feelings without actually asking them.
Description: Basic MERN-based web app for tracking pet care.
Description: An observational study using publicly available data government data to perform predictive analytics on SAT scores based on the measured physical and electronic access to literature. The study also highly focused on the reproducibility of the work for later improvement by enforcing the use of Docker images and AWS EC2 to enable any researcher, regardless of their personal computer to reproduce and improve upon the methods chosen with the same data and environment. The measurement of impact was assessed by the percent of the variance covered in any predictive model while maintaining statistical significance.
Description: The problem that this paper is intended to address is how we can leverage pathfinding programs and algorithms to find the shortest possible path for a robot to travel from node A to node B, given all the obstacles that might be on the way. This calculated pathway is then visualized through a web application that demonstrates the back-end result to the user.
Description: With the development of information and science technology, mobile apps and websites provide a high level of support and experience for new parents. This mobile app /website can guide parents through children’s progress, following milestones to expect, suggested age-appropriate behaviors, and how to support their development. In addition, the baby growth record software can quickly and conveniently record the baby’s growth and intelligently manage the growth trajectory.
Description: The purpose of this project is to add dependency scanners to LibreFoodPantry humanitarian open source project, using dependency scanners tools in gitlab.
Description: This paper dives into the current state of security awareness and cybersecurity. Current cybersecurity awareness training is boring and organizations rely too heavily on technical tools to circumvent threats. I explore a couple of different methods to improve education, namely gamification, and how and why it works. Organizations need to focus more on the psychology of their delivery methods versus meeting compliance if their wish is to increase security awareness and create a more resilient workforce.
Description: The challenges with LowCode/NoCode development and its opportunities.
Description: The CNN model is used to detect presence of autism in children using facial images dataset that was originally sourced from Kaggle. The model has a very simple architecture and is built from scratched, then retrained, and tuned . The best model is then integrated into an iOS application.
Description: Using Twitter’s API, tweets from the full year of 2020 were collected based on keywords related to depression and run through a classification model to label as depressive or non-depressive. These tweets were then analyzed based on geographical location within the state of Florida and compared to the suicide report for the state of Florida to see if the areas of highest depressive sentiment correspond to the areas of highest depressive sentiment.
Description: One of the critical skills that a Data Scientist needs is the ability to select an appropriate Machine Learning algorithm to apply to a given problem, but it takes skill and experience to do so successfully. This research leverages Microsoft’s Bot Framework Composer to create a chatbot capable of suggesting which ML algorithm should be applied to a given problem based on conversation with a user.
Description: This paper mainly builds a Web platform to comment on movies by shooting short videos. The project server uses the Nginx server. The backend code uses the Laravel framework. The front-end uses the Vue3.0 framework. Database storage uses MySQL technology and Redis technology.
Description: This paper discusses internet addiction as a disorder and its potential causes. It touches on the aspect of socioeconomics and mental health and is written to facilitate the future work of examining this disorder as it could apply to cybersecurity.
Description: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the unknown or unseen websites that, most of the population does not know exist, and to reveal the hidden elements that are associated with both the Deep and Dark Web.
Description: The purpose of this paper is to propose a cyber security option for smart doorbell that allows to keep your privacy, network and any cyber intruders that may want to gain access to your cameras or network via a doorbell that has little to no security measures.
