Quantum Computing Meets Open Source Software
🌟 Speaker: Nate Stemen, Quantum Software Developer @ Unitary Fund 🌟

Nate Stemen

Nate is a quantum software developer working at Unitary Fund where he helps to create a diverse, and flourishing open-quantum ecosystem. He holds a masters degree from the University of Waterloo where he studied quantum circuit compilation, with an interest in quantum error mitigation. Previously, Nate has worked as a (classical) software developer at Overleaf where he helped make LaTeX more accessible to those with an internet browser. At Unitary Fund, Nate’s work revolves around making Mitiq (python toolkit for quantum error mitigation) more usable, and effective.

Opportunities

IUP Chinese Language Immersion Program for Cybersecurity Students

An incredibly opportunity has just been announced by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity. This pilot program is targeted for cybersecurity students to develop language foundations and proficiency in Chinese. 

Food, lodging, travel, and events are all included plus a stipend of $6,000.

  • College sophomores and juniors majoring in Cybersecurity (AY 23-24).
  • Preference given to those with prior Chinese language exposure.
  • US citizen or permanent resident.

2024 Future Computing Summer Internship

⭐️ Get hands-on experience with the NSA ⭐️ 

The Advanced Computing Systems Research Program (ACS) in the NSA Research Directorate is joining with their counterparts in the High-Performance Computing Solutions (HPCS) and Operations (OPS) organizations to provide a select number of undergraduate students an exciting 9-week internship opportunity. 

This internship experience is ideal for US students who will be completing their junior year (Spring 2025 graduates), and is well-suited for students in math, computer science, computer engineering, or related STEM fields.

Ethics in Cybersecurity Across the Globe

Cynthia A. Wright, Principal, Cybersecurity Strategy & Policy at the Cyber Solutions Innovation Center for MITRE Labs will parlay her insights and experience in international cybersecurity ethics and policy to bring the 8 DFEI Ethics Initiatives to life.

Cynthia will share real-world cyber-related examples for each of the DFEI Principles below, resting for a minute on the 2nd, Trust, as this particular principle aligns well with the United Nations (UN) Confidence-building Measures Between Countries, as it relates to cybersecurity.
