The first Interface Message Processor (IMP) which interconnected networks between research facilities on the ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet, was delivered to UCLA. This device we now call network routers, is considered a first-generation network router. The second IMP was given to Stanford Research Institute on Oct 1, 1969 and the very first message between the two IMPS was sent on October 29th which is documented as the first message sent over the Internet.
