Message From Leadership

Dr. Sam Chung, Dean of School of Technology and Computing (STC)

“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” African Proverb

Our professional careers in cyberspace are very different from jobs in physical space. Compared to “what you can see is what you can get” in physical space, you need to understand “what you cannot see is what you can get” in cyberspace. Because of that, our cyber jobs require Critical thinking, Comprehension, Collaboration, Communication, and Cultural Competency, the Five (5) Cs – to do teamwork efficiently and effectively. Each course includes a weekly discussion forum to ensure every student develops strong Five (5) Cs.

Now, STC has a team of academic leadership for AI, CS, CY, DS, IST, and Center Program:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Dr. Sion Yoon

Computer Science (CS) – Dr. Ali Khamesipour

Cybersecurity (CY) – Mr. Jonathan Helmus and Mr. James Taylor

Data Science (DS) – Dr. Brian Maeng

Information Systems & Technology (IST) – Mr. Michael Palmer

Center Program – Ms. Morgan Zantua & Dr. Ahreum Ju

With this team, I want to go together to go far for my students. You can find the STC team in our STC organizational chart at https://c4cyi.cityu.edu/organizational-chart/.

Last week Dean Chung and Provost Scott Carnz attended the Executive Leadership Forum in Gulf Port, Mississippi.

Dan Montague attended the DoD CySP Bootcamp:

In his own words:

This is a public service opportunity, first and foremost. Department of Defense (DoD) representatives stressed that scholars are entrusted by the public to further their education and subsequently work in the national interest of the United States.

Each DoD sponsoring agency hand selects scholars for employment post-graduation. A CySP scholarship award means the program pays tuition, a stipend (~$30k/yr), offers summer internships with the sponsoring agency, and represents a job offer.
