Welcome to the first week of Summer Quarter 2020.
At CityU and School of Technology & Computing (STC), our academic year officially begins with Summer Quarter. Many of our new programs described in Spring Quarter began effective July 1, 2020. We will continue to update you with the new changes to our degree programs and industry focused stackable certificates. If you are new to STC please take the time to reference previous STC Thursday Bytes,
This quarter we continue to make adjustments to Covid-19. Last quarter our Teaching Assistants and active students focused on the Covid-19 Challenge. This quarter editors of the STC Thursday Byte look forward to hearing from you, our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, about the innovative approaches to studying, work, and healthy living you have developed.
The first week of any quarter is a period of adjustment. If you are enrolled in an STC course through CityU Seattle and are experiencing technical issues, the Teaching Assistant (TA) Center can help. TAs can assist with challenges related to course understanding exercises, assignments, and virtual labs. They respond to your requests for help usually within 24 hours. Our TAs respond can’t do your homework, but they can make sure you understand instructions. Read the TA Guidelines and meet the Spring Quarter TAs at https://smartandsecurecomputing.org/tacenter For assistance email: statacenter@cityu.edu
Kim Nguyen, TA and MSCS student, passed her Linux+ Certification.
Come to the Thursday Club july 9th and learn how to obtain a CompTIA Voucher to take the Linux+ Certification
Our student clubs adapted to Covid-19 and adapted meetings to Zoom and then to Microsoft Teams. The advantages certainly outweigh the disadvantages. Our community is adapting to virtual work environments. While we miss seeing you in person, there are advantages to meeting on Teams. We don’t have a long commute. finding a parking spot in Seattle is no longer a problem. Anyone can join – from Washington to South Carolina to Mexico, Europe, or Viet Nam. Everyone can join the meetings. The disadvantages. Well, we can’t serve food virtually and it takes a bit more effort to physically network. The student club presidents, Elena Biermann, Tech Club, and David Yi, Cybersecurity Club, are planning engaging meeting formats. Come check out the activities starting Thursday, July 9th :
Student Clubs, the Tech Group and the Cybersecurity Club, will meet Thursdays from 4 P.M. PST to 5 P.M. via Teams: Summer Quarter Weekly Student Club & SSCRG Meeting. For students or faculty who would like to do a presentation, upload slides here.
